Glyburide belongs to the family of anti-diabetes drugs known as the sulfonylureas. It works by making the pancreas release insulin. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes, in which the pancreatic beta cells make insulin, but muscle and other cells in the body are insensitive to it. When more insulin is released it is able to overcome this insensitivity. Insulin helps cells take in sugar and use it to make energy, lowering blood sugar levels.
