When Can We Prescribe Subutex
(keywords: buprenorphine monoproduct, subutex)
We can only prescribe Subutex if there has been a failed attempt to treat with the combination product (Suboxone). If a patient emails us asking if we can prescribe Subutex we should respond that we only consider it if the patient has had a prescription of Suboxone (buprenorphine PLUS naloxone) in the past and has proof of this (who is the prescriber etc–street Suboxone does not count). Reasons like the medication being cheaper, or “works better” are not valid reasons. Only true allergies or adverse reactions like migraines, tongue swelling etc count.
