What is medication for opioid use disorder?
Medication-assisted treatment for opioid use disorder (MOUD) is an effective strategy that combines medication with counseling and behavioral therapy to treat substance use disorders. One of the most promising medications for opioid use disorder is buprenorphine-naloxone HCL (Suboxone).

How does suboxone help?
This medication helps alleviate withdrawal symptoms, reduce cravings, and manage pain, proving highly effective in treating addiction and dependency on various substances. Studies also show that this treatment method is effective for patients addicted to Kratom and Tianeptine.

Frequently asked questions
View All FAQsI am interested in your Addiction Treatment Services. How does it work?
QuickMD offers Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) services in most states. Please see our service map for exceptions. Appointments are $99 and do not include the price of medication. The price of the medication depends on the pharmacy you choose and your prescription drug coverage.
The induction visit is your first MOUD appointment. During this visit, your provider will prescribe a 7-day supply of buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone) to monitor your tolerance and make any necessary dosage adjustments.
The follow-up visit is included in the cost of the initial visit if completed within 14 days. After induction you will then transition to monthly appointments.
When should I schedule my first followup appointment?
We recommend scheduling your follow-up appointment at least one week after your induction visit or before your initial prescription runs out to ensure continuity of care and prevent any interruptions in your medication.
Your follow-up appointment must be scheduled within 14 days of your induction appointment to remain covered under the original pricing. After this period, additional fees may apply.
If the follow-up isn’t completed within this window, it will no longer be covered under the induction package, and a $99 fee will apply. Patients who miss their follow-up receive a $64 credit toward future visits, but no refunds are provided.
This bundled induction package applies only to NEW MOUD patients and does not extend to those needing a new induction period after a lapse in treatment.
In what states is the Addiction Treatment service available?
We are the largest TeleMOUD service in the US and serve most states.
patients must be located in the United States and residing in the state in which your valid photo ID is issued. We cannot send prescriptions outside of your home state–even if you are located near the border. Suboxone cannot be prescribed while you are traveling in a different state. Patients cannot change their address more than 1 time in a 6 month period.
Please note: For patients who schedule an appointment in the incorrect state, Patient Support may reschedule your appointment with a physician in your applicable state after an additional $35 administrative fee has been paid.
Is QuickMD MOUD treatment truly remote or will I need to see a doctor in person?
QuickMD provides fully remote, addiction treatment. Our licensed providers can prescribe buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone) without requiring an initial in-person visit. However, some states require annual or semi-annual in-person visits to maintain telemedicine-based addiction treatment. Please visit our in-person clinics page for more information about state requirements.
Are QuickMD providers able to prescribe Subutex instead of Suboxone?
QuickMD providers primarily prescribe Suboxone due to DEA regulations and the higher risk of misuse associated with Subutex. If a patient has an adverse drug reaction or allergy to Suboxone then a Subutex prescription may be offered. For further questions, please contact us directly.

Can I get an early refill of Suboxone (buprenorphine-naloxone)?
MOUD programs have strict rules that both patients and providers must abide by. These rules are enforced by the DEA, which include no early refills. We encourage you to book an appointment several days before running out of the medication to avoid last-minute pharmacy issues, but we do not authorize refills earlier than the grace period of your individual pharmacy (which is generally between 1-3 days).
In summary, we cannot authorize early refills for the following:
- In cases of lost or stolen medication
- Taking more than the prescribed amount
- Travel-related early refills
We recommend informing your doctor of your travel plans in advance. Request a prescription for less than a month’s supply so that your refill date doesn’t coincide with your travel dates. This will allow you to refill your medication shortly before your trip. If you have additional questions please contact us directly.
How effective is medication for opioid use disorder (MOUD) with buprenorphine-naloxone (Suboxone) for other substance use disorders like Tianeptine or Kratom addiction?
At QuickMD, we are able to treat Kratom and Tianeptine dependence and addiction in the same manner that we treat more traditional opioid use disorder.
Although tianeptine is not an opioid itself, tianeptine binds to and acts as an agonist at the mu-opioid receptor, the same type of activity caused by opioid drugs. An article in the Journal of Addiction Medicine reports “Chronic daily use of tianeptine may represent tianeptine use disorder, which can have a clinical course consistent with opioid use disorder, including the development of impaired control, functional impairment, tolerance, and withdrawal. It is appropriate to consider medications (like buprenorphine) for opioid use disorder for the management of tianeptine use disorder.”
Kratom contains mitragynine, which breaks down and activates mu-opioid receptors. Kratom dependence, withdrawal, and addiction can be treated with buprenorphine as well.
